I have a 1997 Mercury 150 EFI on a Gambler Outlaw boat, same year. My problem is intermittant. It first shows up in the morning when I first launch the boat and try to plane. It has no power and will not plane. It does have a bit of a rough idle when this happens as well. If I shift into neutral and rev the motor a bit, then plane off, it will run just fine. Then intermittantly while running at about 5000 rpm it will "cut out" just for a split second and again lose power, but will pick right back up. Also, throughout a day of fishing, sometimes the plane-off problem comes back.

The motor has a few modifications to it. There is a performance tuner installed, a new set of reeds and the oil injection system has been removed. I have run with this configuration for about a year with no problems, this just started happening within the last month or so.

The spark and compression at all 6 cylinders is good. The stator was replaced about 2 years ago. I am kind of leaning toward a voltage regulator problem.

I turn a 25 pitch Tempest prop at 6000 rpm and/or a 24 pitch Trophy at about 6500 rpm.

Any advice would be appreciated.
