My problem consists of my outboard cutting off while im running..

The speed varies when the motor cuts off.. I can be going 15 or 50 but the motor will cut off a some point and its always randomly..

I can run sometimes for a while before it does it but sometimes it happens right when i head out..

But the motor will crank right back up..

No alarms for overheating sound..

Re: Mercury 150 EFI Problem! Help!!

I am having the exact same issue with my 2000 Merc EFI Saltwater Series.

I have it in the shop right now, but I'm not sure they will be able to duplicate it because sometimes it will not cut off untill I throttle up in gear. It acts electrical and not fuel related because of the abruptness of the stall out.

The one thing I noticed was that it will quit doing it after the engine is extreamly warmed up like something is expanding and creating a better connection. I am leaning towards the main wiring harness having a bad connection.

Have you corrected your problem yet?

Sounds like the high pressure pump failing or driver board in ECU.

Would it still start right back up if it were the high pressure pump?

Yep..Best to install a fuel pressure test guage and run and see if pressure starts falling before it quits.

Shop just called, looks like the ECU is bad. I can have it repaired or buy new. Repaired will cost $850, new is $2200

All the ECU's I have see are either good or bad, no in between. You could have a fuel pump driver board failing in ECU which will cause fuel pump to shutoff if jarred. I would make repair/installer to give in writing that if ECU did not fix it they will repair it at no cost to you. You can send it out to DFI or Brucato and have ECU tested/repaired before making buying one and Tony(Brucato) makes a customer adjustable replacement for $1200
