I have a 1975 1500 mercury outboard previous owner has been working on. There are two check valves thascrew into block, one on top of motor, one at bottom. They are connected by a piece of 1/8 inch hose about 2 feet long.I need to know which valve goes in which hole. The bottom valve has a rubber duck bill allowing air only to travel up towards top of motor. Top valve only has a screen ,allows air to pass either way.Is this correct? Thanks, Russ Keeler

Russ, The bottom one should be the one way valve to allow oil to travel up to the top fitting to lubricate the upper bearing.
