Mercury 150hp Black Max Serial Number 5204056 what year?

Hey all I recently bought a 1980 Champion Swift with a 150 Black Max with a serial number of 5204056 I was wondering if any one has any info on this motor such as year and such I had a friend tell me its a XR-2 motor. But I would like to know what I have before I start buying parts. I would also like to know this info so I can remove the idle stabllizer and time this motor correctly and run off its mechanical timing only. Thanks any info would be greatly appreciated.

Check for year on maxrules website. Likely about 1980 vintage. XR2 has the smaller gearcase, if I remember correctly.

1979 as it got the twin rams and 1980 has the single ram. Motor also has butterfly choke system which makes them a bear to start.

I had a friend tell me its a XR-2 motor.

Not a Xr2 in any fashion just a stock 2.0L

so I can remove the idle stabllizer and time this motor correctly and run off its mechanical timing only

This motor has a enricher valve on top carb that has a fuel line feeding into bottom of bowl no choke flaps so whats that mean?

A) Someone updated motor with newer carbs to get it to start B) Midsection has a later model powerhead installed. Look on the cylinder head and get head casting number and we can tell from that. Also a nother give amay is no casting boss or area has been milled for a oil injection pump on block.
