I recently started having some issues with my 2004 15HP 4STR. All summer it has worked great. It sat for about a month, kids soccer season, and now I've stopped getting water out of the tell tale hole. I have replace the impeller, checked the tube and the tube seals and all seems to be fine. I removed the T-stat and still no water out of the tell tale tube. I removed the T-Stat cover and ran the motor and I got water out or the opening so it appears the the pump is working. I removed the small cover that the tell tale tube is connected which is located on the back side of the drive housing. This opening is divided into two compartments with a small opening between them. The top one is were the tell tale tube is connected. The bottom one looks like it has the openings for the water return from the block and the discharge down to the propeller. Those are the only two opening that I can find in either compartment. My question is how does this thing work? Does the all the water retuning from the block come through one opening and rely on the back pressure to push the water up to the top and out the tell tale tube? Is there another opening from the block in the top compartment that I haven't found? Thanks in advance.

Hey morse2163

Have you tried a simple stiff wire up the tell tale? You said it sat for awhile mabey a good ol' dirt wasp made a house.

Correction, with the T-Stat removed I am getting water out the tell tale hole. I did the old water on the stove trick to test the T-Stat and it does opens around the 140 deg F range. My owners manual says that once motor is started to check for water out of the tell tale hole. Should I still be getting water out the tell tale even it the T-Stat is closed?

should be through in seconds.is the head getting hot and if so will need further investigation.if impeller/previous has ever had pieces missing that could be the fault.
