It doesn't matter as long as it's made to spec, <br />TCW-3, which I'm sure it is. As your motor is fairly new, and small, using a good product from the start is a good practice.

This is pretty much the way I see it, If it says its TC-W3, You will not likely have any serious problems, I have allways felt that you are going to get what you pay for with oil. (Not allways) but usually, Personally If it were a choice between the two regular oils you mention, I would opt for the Merc oil. My feeling about synthetic is that they are better, in that they will not smoke as bad, they will burn cleaner, you will not have to decarb as often, and your spark plugs will last a lot longer. Also you can troll forever without any fouling if your engine is running at its peak.

If you're still under warranty, stick with Merc oil. After that you're on your own. I find that Merc oil smokes less and leaves less carbon. If it were a big motor run hard all the time, it'd do a better overall job. Considering it's a 9.9 (no offense), any marine oil currently sold should do fine.
