Mercury 20 HP gearbox help

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew if the mercury 20 HP gearbox from an '81 model was interchangeable with any other models.
I am having an awful lot of trouble trying to source a gearbox replacement so i thought there may be other models that shared the box.
very quickly running out of options here so any help would be great
Since it was an American built model i may have to start looking at importing a box from a wreckers there.

Hey i have come across a 25 hp box from a later model does anyone know if this will fit ???

A gearcase from a 18,18XD,20,25,25XD will work from 1980 thru 1994
