I have a pull start 1976 Model 200 Mercury 20 HP that I just purchased. The first few time I took it out it ran fine. The last time I took it out it stopped going in reverse. Heres the story. I drove to my fishing spot, and manually trimmed the boat out of the water(it does not have electric trim) to troll around while I was fishing. When I got ready to go I put the motor back down. Cranked up fine. When I put it in reverse it would not go. I shifted it into foward and it went fine. When I got it out of the water I cranked it up to see if the prop was spinning in reverse. It spins until you put pressure on it. I took the prop off and messed with it trying to get the little thing that holds the rod that hold the prop on off. Now the motor will not spin at all in reverse, but works great in forward. I hope someone on here has an idea of what is wrong. Thanks for any help.
