I have a 200HP Mercury that will start right away when i launch, but will not start after we get were we need to go. I noticed oil in the water after i try starting it. I will let it sit for an hour then it will barely start up. I replace the starter soleniod a month ago. Could it be weak batterys?

Re: Mercury 200 XL Saltwater

So, it cranks and starts right up when cold, but after the run it does not crank easily, correct? Or does it crank and just not want to start? The oil in the water is not a problem, just incidental. Ater you get where you are going, will it crank at all? Does the starter make any noise? Selonoid? Apperently it runs good otherwise. Is that correct? Any symptoms while running or just before shut-off? Or as you say, it could be the batteries are failing. Have them load tested to make sure they are up to par to eliminate that source as trouble....The charging system could also be a problem if the battery keeps discharging...

It cranks and does not want to start. When i get to where iam going it will crank but not start. Does run good no other symptoms before shut off. The batterys are 5 years old.

Check for spark on all cylinders when this happens!
