My mercury 200hp outboard starts missing after about 10 minutes running at full trottle. then after another 15 minutes of missing the engine then goes ok for another 10 minutes. This problem on occurs in the water.(we have cleaned the carbs)
Anyone any suggestions.

Check stator output, and pack output, while engine is running in water.

Many thanks Canton. Excuse my ingorance but I have never heard of a stator pack. Would we in Ireland refer to it as something else.
regards
john :)

Re: Mercury 200hp

G'Day from down under. And the top of the morning t' ya. The stator is a piece of equipment under the flywheel that creats the spark. It feeds the power to the switchboxes which are mounted on the stbd side of the motor. Some people call the switch a power pack or pack. I reckon that your problem is fuel related. Possible fuel starvation, check tank, hose and primer bulb. Barrow another tank and hose and test the motor. the problem may be electrical. I would suggest that you obtain a manual that covers this model.

Re: Mercury 200hp

May be a red herring, but my 135 runs like that when the plugs are dying. It eats plugs at an alarming rate and on removal they all look as good as new. However with brand new plugs I get all the power back and it runs fine for many hours. It was suggested that I change from rim fire standard to ordinary plugs of type NGK BP8H-N-10.
as these allegedly pull less power on the stator. No doubt a more knowledgeable source could amplify this. Good luck

Re: Mercury 200hp

If engine runs fine for 10 minutes, should not be fuel problem, but it nevers hurts to check every system. The stator or powerpack/switchbox is acting up after they get warm. Heat the packs with a hair dryer, cold engine, then try it. The easy way to find this problem if ignition is to connect a peak reading meter to the pack output to coil, run engine until misses, check each cylinder. Timing light will also show ignition miss, check each cylinder. when you locate cylinders that are miss firing, check spark plug wire, pack output to coil if low replace pack, stator output to pack if low replace pack, Check magnets in flywheel, sometimes they come loose. If you have meter I will provide you with the specs, need year or serial number of engine.
