'96 Mercury 200hp EFI outboard S/N og373964 does anyone know if the one purple wire which disables the low oil warning has any effect on the temperature warning?

Re: Mercury 200hp

I heard that both horn circuits(low oil, overheating) share the same wiring in some spots. Hopefully someone will chime in thats knows for sure............

Re: Mercury 200hp

If it's the same as on my V6 carb engine then the warning module is common to both circuits. The oil warning circuit checks both float level in header tank and also that the oil pump shaft is rotating at engine speed. The oil pump rotation sensor outputs a pulse to the warning module which is compared to the primary circuit on one of the coils (No 4 I think). If the two don't match then the module outputs an oil alarm (bleep..bleep...bleep). Overtemp alarm (continuous bleep) also output from this module.
