Mercury 225 stall

Anybody know what to do with a 225 1997 Mercury that cuts out at low speed when shifting from forward to reverse and back. Engine runs fine all day then at the dock will stall and quit as gears are changed leaving me coming at the dock like a torpedo. Does not do it all the time, but when it does its quite a thrill! Driving me crazy!! Also it will not restart unless its put into neutral and given some fuel before turning the key.

sounds like your shift cables need adjusting also what is your ide speed?

Some of these engines have a shift switch, and an idle stabilizer module. The manual says the purpose of this system is to help prevent stalling when shifting. I reading this from factory manual, have no hands on experence with this switch or module.
