Hi
I have a 1999 Mercury 25 hp 2 stroke outboard that is on my duck boat. I had a problem a few weeks ago which consisted of fuel leaking from the fuel line connector on the motor. As I would pump the ball fuel was leaking down the transom etc...
I bought a new fuel line with pump to go from the fuel tank to the motor and the problem went away.....until this morning.
Started the motor up this morning and as soon as I put it in gear it stalled out and I could not get it to turn over again. So, I put in new spark plugs thinking this would help. The bottom plug was pretty fouled. Unfortunately this didn't fix the problem.
So, I pulled off the sight bowl and emptied it out, put it back on and pumped the ball. Nothing happened, the sight bowl didn't fill up with fuel. So now I am thinking that the fuel line to the tank was frozen, so I stuck it in my coat for a while and then put it under the heater in my truck for a while. Neither of which fixed the problem.
What I then noticed was happening is that fuel was leaking down the transom again into the bilge area. As I pumped the ball fuel was almost spraying out around the fuel line connector.
I am wondering if there is a problem with the fuel line connector on the motor ? It seems like there is a back pressure problem. Should I replace the fuel line connector ?
Any thoughts from the pros out there ?
Thanks up front
Bill
