mercury 3.5hp hard to start

I pulled the thing 20 times it wont go. I used some starter fluid (i know i'm not supposed to) it fired up first pull. Stays running, runs good when I can get it started. Except when I open it up full throttle it will stall. Then when I turn the motor off for more then 5mins or so, it will not start without the fluid. Also when I tilted the motor back: a quarter cup of fuel came out of the carborator. I am somewhat new to outboards, but I know a little. Any help would great

I have the same problem. Imo the motor is a POC. I'm going to try using premium fuel it seems like its a fuel issue as you say once running it runs ok. I dont have a stalling issue when underway but again could be fuel.
