I have a Kiekhaefer Mercury 35 Hp outboard, S/N 2242031 (1967,68,69). I also have a spare Mercury 35 Hp S/N 1961234 (1964,65,66). I would like to remove the starter and the "ring gear" (the gear that the start motor engages) from the spare motor and install it and the starter on the 67,68,69 motor (it has no ring gear). Can anyone please tell me if the ring gear will fit on the 67,68,69 motor. Should I take the motors to a shop to have this done? Thanks a million for advice. Soddy

Re: Mercury 35 HP Starter

soddy;

2242031 is:

350 (35.0) 2097800 - 2300971 1967

1961234 is:

350 (35.0) 1960827 - 2097799 1966

From here:

The 1966 engine is a model number 1350106, parts listing here:

The 1967 engine is a model number 1350107, parts listing here:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/435.cfm

Both engines use the same Flywheel p/n 218-2242A2 which you can see under"Starter Motor Starter Solenoid and Wiring Harness.

Hope this is not too confusing.

Re: Mercury 35 HP Starter

Gerry: Thank you so much. Your expertise really helps me. I can now get a shop to do the starter and flywheel installation and then find an used throttle and shift control. Thanks a million. Harold
