Mercury 4 stroke 4 hp - lower unit reinstall trouble

Hi
I replaced the water pump and now I’m having a hell of a time trying to reinstall the lower unit. I’ve tried slowly spinning the shaft to line it up. Nothing. Been trying for 7 hours total now. Does anyone know of a trick? Or a great YouTube link that shows how. I’m broken hearted. Lol
