Is there a troubleshooting method for a 40hp, Mercury. It's a 1978 402 model 40 HP
2 cylinder S/N 5042254.
The problem is no fire to plugs!
I've been told it's either the power pack
#3324911 or the individual coils.
Is there a way to test the power pack?
Say with a multimeter.
Check voltage out on each of the wires?
Then test the coils?
Thanks
Steve

If there is no fire at both coils it's likely the powerpack is the route of the problem.

TMD

You will also have a mercury tilt switch that needs to be ruled out.Just ditch it if it is found faulty.

Hello,

I have the same Problem. I changed the switchbox and no success. From my dealer I got the Info, that at my Merc 402 the Trigger Plate or the Stator is faulty. Unfortunalety it is the most expencive Spare part.

Thomas

Mate from Germany: Did the dealer have any tests for you to determine if the stator was the issue?
