I have a 1974 mercury 402/40hp, I have no spark! I have eliminated the ignition switch in the remote and added a switch and choke on the dash of the console (because the wires were cut in the remote and their was no switch). I have questions please help....
1. I am sort of confused on the digram listed by Clymer. can you please tell me what direction power is ran in the ignition switch. for example I know that when the swith is turned to run, power is sent to the choke switch and on start power is ran to the choke SW and to the solenoid. but what happens to the black(D) and the Salmon(E) when the start switch is off, on run and on start? Currently I have a 3 way ignition switch from an auto parts store the switch has these positions on the back of it BAT, IGN, ACC and Start. I can get the motor to turn over nicely with RED(BAT) and the Yellow(start) hooked up. I also have the gray/choke switch hooked up to the yellow and that works fine when the start switch is turned the choke works! but still no spark. On the original switch does the Salmon and black(GRD) connect to anything in the RUN or Start Positions. Im thinking that the BLK(GRD) grounds out the Salmon wire? allowing no power to go to the Switch Box? and when the switch is turned Run/Start the salmon is energized sendimng power to the switch box? please help.
