Mercury 40hp Not running.

Good Afternoon. Mercury 40hp 1990 engine running strong for 45 min, stalls a little bit and after 1 min stops. After 15 min starts again, runs good for another 20 min. I anchored the boat for 30 mins and engine did not turn on at all. Next day I noticed the 20amp fuse was blown out. Replaced it and engines turned on fine in back yard. After a week, tried again but engine did not turn on at all. <br />Thanks for you help.

hmmm..<br /><br />Test your regulator, it could be causing the fuse to blow.<br /><br />Also check to see how much water is being pumped.<br /><br />Regulator test is as follows<br /><br />Get an ohm meter. Connect + to red - to yellow. <br />There should be continuity. <br /> <br />Connect - to red + to yellow <br />There should be no continuity. <br /><br />Also make sure you battery is hooked up properly.<br /><br />TMD

Thanks Doctor for your advice. The rectifier was not giving any reading at all. I replaced it with a new one BUT again there is no spark. I suspect the swich box.
