Mercury 40hp Problems

i was going down the lake full trotlle then all of a sudden the motor slowed down to a stop and wouldn't even push the boat just a little the prop was still sinning fast so i went home and put the muff on it. it was reving up real loud and spinning fast when i out into forward the same thing it was doing on the lake i was told it was the a spun prop i got it rehubed now i went out this morning it started up when i put it into forward it would barely push the boat more than it was before i got the prop rehubed but it barley moving what could my problem be

You aren't very clear on the relationship between engine speed, prop speed and boat speed, benton. Please try again.

BTW, it is very dangerous to rev the engine without a load on the prop. The engine can go into thermal runaway (act like a model airplane glo-plug engine) and destroy itself.
