First time to the forum....came here as I was surfing the net looking for answers to my issue. Hoping for some insight....all input welcomed.
I have a Merc40M, 3 cyl, 2004.....I have owned it for about 9 years.....Use mostly for duck hunting......I had about 450 hours on it when I had to have the power head rebuilt...(operator error).....Since then, it seems like the idle has been effected....Initially it seemed like when i changed gears from forward to reverse it would stall......I fixed that problem when I realized the shifting rod was not properly aligned......
About a month ago I had to have the stater and wiring harness replaced. Since then it seems that when I come off the throttle, the engine will run for about a minute but then slowly dies out....as if not enough fuel is getting to it.....This does not happen all the time....Sometimes i can pull it up to the dock and it will run for 5 or 10 minutes while i go get the trailer, other times it will stall out after 30 seconds.
Another symptom,,,(related?),,,,is that when I am in some debris like light vegetation, and I engage the engine in reverse it dies out.....Now I know this is not unusual, however in the past it never did this.
Another Symptom (related?) When I hit the throttle from a dead stop, there is a hesitation before I feel response.....I generally have to rev the engine, let it come down and then hit the throttle hard.
Before this was never an issue....I would turn the throttle and the pick up was as quick as a sports car......
I have thought about fuel lines, fuel pump, idle control......But I am not sure if I need to consider more than that....Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you.
