does the mercury come with a kill switch in case u hit something under the water.
the boat has a small fin on the botton like it could be a trip switch. It seemed to be on the grounded position like 45 deg. should it be sitting at 90 deg to the water.

i have re-newed the solinoid and im still getting the same click. Ive also checked the voltage and the starter motor is getting power but won't turn... against the battery the starter spins, but on the solinoid it won't... can anyone advise.....

Regards, Lee.

That fin is a trim tab used to compensate for prop torque which causes the boat to pull one way or the other. Bypass both your battery cables using jumper cables and test again.

if it works with jump leads from battery to starter motor, what would the problem be as ive renewed the solinoid.????

I'm saying use jumper cable from the battery to the solenoid and to ground. Anotherwords take your existing battery cables out of the picture. One of them may be bad. Or if you know how to do it you could do a voltage drop test on them.
