Mercury 470 missing serial number plate

Hey everyone. Like the title states, I just picked up a mid 80's Cheetah 180 with the 470 motor but it's missing the serial number plate. Is there any way to identify this motor without it? Any help with this would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Might want to post the actual year of the boat, that will narrow down to within a year one way or the other. Pictures also work, a few of the front, exhaust manifold and expansion tank. They varied a few times.

Thanks Don. I believe it's an 85, I'm not 100% sure, I will know later in the week when the original owner gets me the paper work for it.
