Hello All,

new to this forum. I have some questions.

We have a 2001 Fisher 1700 that has a Mercury 50 ph.

We are having some engine problems, and need to know some things before we know what to look for.

1.Paper work say 2001 but the label inside the Mercury 50 says 2000. So which year do I go by when looking to buy the repair manual? I have the serial number and model number. Is it okay to post that here?

2. I have been told by one boat place I have a 2 stroke, and another place said it was a 4 stroke. How do I know which it is?

3. I looked at the papers and all it says is 2001 50"ELPTO" What does that mean?

:) Found answer to this one. ELPTO = Electric Start-Long Shaft-Power Trim-Oil Injected. Still looking for answers on the first 2 questions so we can start trying to figure out what wrong with the engine.

Thanks for yall's help

That motor is a 2 stroke.
EL- electric start
PT-power trim
O- oil injection

Re: Mercury 50 Hp? How many stroke?

Thanks for the reply, that's 2 answers. Just need to know which year to go by.

The model number is 1050412YO, no clue how to decipher this. But I think it was manufactured in 2000 and sold with our 2001 boat is why it says 2001 on the paper work.

So going to see if I can find the repair manual for Mercury 50 hp 2 stroke 2000 year.

Re: Mercury 50 Hp? How many stroke?

We couldnt find a book for 2001 2 stroke. Did find one for 2000 2 stroke, so we bought it, But still ended up taking boat to the shop, different one this time. And yep, had to pay $600 to have the carb rebuilt second time in 6 months, this guy we have used before on old champion bass boat, so trust him. He said, that, the carb look like it had never been touched before. So dont know what to do about that.

He fix it, and we took it on our 5 day camping trip and it ran like brand new. which was wonderful. DH ran out an entire tank of gas so had to troll to the dock. lol.

But this weekend, only 3 weeks from Carb rebuild. The boat is running like crap again. We put new gas in, the expensive stuff. and its running like it did before.

I called the guy, he said to bring it in, and he will check it, but he thinks, its bad gas. And said, gas now has ethonal and boat motors dont like it.

So if I have to have the carbs cleaned or rebuilt again, What the heck kind of gas do get get so we dont have to do this every time.

Any suggestions on gas.

Thanks,
Sharon
