Any of you guys help me here?
I've bought the Seloc manual, but there's no reference to a start up procedure. It's a Mercury 50, 1985 4 cylinder with carbs and Thunderbolt ignition.
The control lever has F N R. You can also pull out the lever to enable revs to be applied without drive to the prop. It's auto choke on the key, ie you push the key in firmly before turning to start if cold.
I know it's a basic question, but it's taking quite a few turns to start from cold. (Great once hot).
Cheers
Howard

forgot to add, make sure your fuel line bulb is pumped up to firm.

As hooksetter stated:

Cold start:
- if portable fuel tank, make sure tank vent (on tank cap) is open
- pump fuel bulb until firm
- with engine control in neutral, pull lever out and push a little bit forward for fast idle
- push key in (to enable the choke) and turn to start.
- once it has warmed up a bit, put control and neutral position and you should be ready to go.

Warm start:
- put engine in neutral and turn the ignition key. Shouldn't need choke.

I have the same engine. It is now on its 4th boat and continues to run strong.
