I have a early 80's 50hp 4 cylinder 2 stroke mercury which i have dropped the L/U off and stripped to perform a basic reco on. I am about to begin the process of building it back up again and forgot to take not of where any of the shift positions are meant to be. It was disconnected in neutral, will that help me in re assembly of the L/U? Firstly im wondering which way the shift cam goes in, looking down the shift shaft is it clockwise F-N-R or anti-clockwise F-N-R? Secondly is there a proceedure to make sure you locate the reverse lock in the correct position on the spline? I only have the L/U with me currently, the rest is many km's away. So if anyone can help with a proceedure it would be greatly appreciated!!!

The ramped side of the cam goes toward the oil drain side of the unit
