Re: Mercury 65HP - BlueBand?

Fracka,

"Blue band" refers to the color of the band around the middle of the wrap-around cowling. I believe (someone will correct me if I'm wrong) that prior to 1972 the band was red in color.

Later models are commonly refered to as "blue band".

Regards, Gold Bear ;)

Keep in mind that there were several types of "Blue Bands" There was a solid blue, two strips of blue on top and bottom of Mercury, there was the "Marble" blue that fades from black to blue front to back. The last "Blue Band" models had the electrical entering the motor in the front instead of on the side.

I hope that this helps in some way.

Craig

This vintage of merc 3 cylinder is not the best example of marine propulsion to come out of Fond Du Lac and they are starting to get pretty old too. But they do the job and there are lots of parts around for them (new and used) so keeping one running shouldn't be a problem.

What should I be paying for this type of motor?

Actually the whole setup is a:
Haines Hunter v133 with windscreen and canopy
82' Mercury 65HP Blue Band
Trailer with all new wiring and lights
Allin excellent condition

It looks like this pic but is white and orange instead of blue
Re: Mercury 65HP - BlueBand?

I had a look at it today.
What a dissapointment. Supposed to be a clean little runner. Needs a major cleanup :(

Anyways here is the seriel number of the engine
4267360 and a few pics of the engine. Does the Engine and seriel number match for an 82' model?

OutBoard 1
OutBoard 2
OutBoard 3

Howdee from across the ditch Fracka !

That engine is a 1975 3 cyl 65 hp Merc, seen better days by the look of the photos you posted. I'd be looking that baby over very carefully if your intending to take it further. I bet theres something better out there for your money - something thats seen a little more TLC !

Just my 2 cents worth ! :)

Mike
