i got a Mercury Thunderbolt (don't know what year it was produced) And my new boat is sitting on my driveway and im gonna run the engine tonite to see how it goes, i havent ran it yet apart from the persons backyard which i bought it from...) Ill descripe the motor.. IT says iekahfer Mecury Thunderbolt Ignition.. Has the silver plate at the front which covers the clips for the rap around cover of the motor, Can anyone give me a rough estimate of when this engine was made and where the tacho outputs are (can't find them)... The real question is.. whats the oil:fuel mixing ratio.. Is it 50:1 45:1 25:1 .... So roughly how much do i have to put in 20L of petrol ? Also did these motors have a pitot opening for the speedo or did you have to buy one to put on the transom?<br /><br />Thanks

Look at the pic and give the serial number. If you cannot find it. What is the color of the stripes on the engine.

its got thick red line down it with small white stripes!

You need the serial number to tell what year, or anyother info that may be pertanent.<br />If you find no label,as outlined by Trent, look on the engine block, for a 1" aluminim cap.Itwill look like a freeze plug on a car engine block. The serial number is usually stamped on it.

i have a mercury 650 65hp thunderbolt ignition serial number 4045952 that i am having problems with. when i have it tilted up and almost out of the water i can get the motor to start and run but as soon as i lower the motor into the water to get ready to go it dies on me and i can smell the gas and see the gas in the water. can someone pleae help me find and solve the problem.
