Looking at purchasing a 7.5 hp Merc and need to know approximate year. Can't seem to locate the Serial #. The cowling has blue striping and it is both pull/electric start. Any suggestions on SNlocale? Also, oil mixture?

Right in between the transom T screws, there will be a plate with the serial number on it. Oil Mix should be 50:1

Serial is located in two places - on a plate on the clamp brackets - rear lower part of the saddle. It's also stamped into the motor block, near the cylinder head.
- Scott

Scott,

Any chance of being more specific on the location on the motor block - front or back? I've located 7 numbers 941-7375 on the top/front of the block but I don't think these are the serial #'s! Thanks for everything.

Some motors have the number stamped on what looks like a "freeze plug" it's a round disk on the block near the head.

It'll be a 7-digit number, actually stamped into the block - not cast, and no dashes in the sequence. The numbers are quite tiny, about the size of the type on your screen. Seems to me I recall them being stamped right near the cylinder head water jacket, on the block itself.
- Scott
