Mercury 7.5 tuning

O.k folks I have a 1985 Mercury 7.5hp I have just tuned. It starts ok from cold and accelerates just fine when underload. However when warm, doesn't like to be restarted and when it does, backfires once before it does.
I'm thinking carb is slightly too lean/rich?!!
Any suggestions much appreciated. Cheers.

Get a manual with the specs for float height, idle adjustments and go at her. Do you smell gas when trying to restart?

Done all of the above as per manual. No strong smell of fuel. Thanks.
