Mercury 850 needs starting fluid

The Mercury 850 I have had for 30 years has decided it needs a little ether to wake up. Once warm it will restart- no problem. Also lacking pulling power (skiers, tubers) under LOAD. Still has good top end with a light load and no towables hooked up. Have had to two "repair" shops with nothing to show for my $$. Could really use some actual knowledge...
