I'm loking to buy a mercury 9.8 h.p. The seller told me that is a 1986 motor with thunder bolt ignition. Serial number is 7036297 is it possible to be a 1986? Is there any problem i should know with that kind of motor and year before buying? Can i get parts easilly and affordable? What is the lenght of a short shaft? I have an inflattable 10 feet Quicksilver boat with 16 in. back, do I need short or long shaft.

Hi ferrari testarossa,
Welcome to iboats forums..........
This should be posted in Mercury Outboards......
This is the I/O, Inboard stuff forum........

But, I've been around a few of those motors......
Merc has been building that motor for Many years.... It's a Proven Runner........ ;)
Parts are Readily Available.........

15"s is a Short shaft......(Yes, What You Need)
20"s is the Mid-sized....
25" is a Long shaft......
