Mercury 9.9 2005 4 stroke will not idle

My 2005 9.9 merc 4 stroke will run on fast idle but when you try to put it on the normal idle the motor just dies. I have replaced the fuel filter, the fuel line from the gas tank, taken the carb off taken it apart and cleaned. Still nothing. I am at a loss with what to do next. I am pretty broke so taking it to a mechanic is just not an option. Any information you can give me will be helpful.. Thanks!!

Clean the carb again....You need to use a carb dip rather than "mechanic in a can".

Soak the carb or use a ultrasonic cleaner

yamaha carb dip for a least 24 hour or even better hydo sonic bath

Did it ever idle at low speeds, and are you running your engine at high altitudes? My 15hp would idle fine at sea level but not at 6400ft. The dealer drilled out the cap covering the "hidden screw ajustment", allowing me to fine tuned the engine at 6400ft. Now it idles perfectly. If cleaning the carb doesn't work you may want to try the hidden screw ajustment.

Your dealer is an idiot. That's not how you adapt the engine for altitude, is a Federal crime and violated the manufacturers warranty.
