I am a recent owner of a Mercury 9.9hp. 2-stroke, year 2000
The idle knob was broken when purchased, I have bought the replacement knob Mercury part no. 128022. Is there a trick to get the old part out? I have removed the front part which is held in with a retaining clip. The stub that remains functions, in and out and rotates but how does this come apart to be replaced? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. There is a tiny screw locking it in place. Easy to miss from experience, haha. Just back it off a few turns, then you should be good.

Thanks for the reply! Ok I'll take a look. After backing the screw off the tumbler just pulls out ? I guess the position when removing has to be recognized so its positioned properly when reinstalling?

I removed the broken part. How does the new knob go back in??
I'm afraid of snapping the plastic . I can see the swirl inside the assembly which rotates with knob.
