Hello all and thanks in advance for the help. I have a mercury 90 2003 model. It quit charging the battery a few weeks ago. I checked the rectifier and it was obviously shot. It had melted in some spots and the inside of it felt like it was completely wrecked. So, I changed it out. My battery is charging fine now. However, now my tachometer is acting crazy. It seems to be reading up to about 2000 rpms and then it quits. If you press the trim button the needle on the tach just jumps way up and comes back down. Would this be a stator issue? The tach worked fine even when the bad rectifier was still on. Or, could I have connected something wrong when replacing the rectifier? The wires seemed to be plug and play and color coordinated.
Thanks!
