I have a 2000 mercury 90 H.P.4 stroke engin and it is the worst engine I ever owned.I have broken down 12 times, have been towed in from The Gulf of Mexico 6 times etc.3 days after th warranty was over I had to spend $1100.for repairs(rebuild 4 carbs plus.)I sent 4 certified letters to the president of Mercury and never received a reply.I had the motor in and out of the shop while it was under warranty also.I am a loyal American but will never buy another Mercury or other American motor again. The Japanese make quality motors and that is what I will buy in the future.Has anyone out there had similar problems?Andy

Howdy, DeGaust.

Sounds like you got a lemon. Those engines have been quite reliable for the most part.

To be of any help to you we need more details.

Your engine uses a Yamaha powerhead.

Good luck. :)

you already have a japanese engine. sounds like you have fallen for their marketing too. everyone seems to think they do it so much better. all engines break. your problem sounds like it is more to do with who is working on your engine and not who built it. give us some info on your problems and engine repair history.

Marketing 101.

Tell us more about your problems and how the motor is set up and run. Whats the top rpm with an average load? Do you baby the motor? What fuel? How often do you use it? Why did they have to rebuild the carbs? What spark plugs? I would bet the root of your evil motor is in there somewhere.

Good luck!
