Mercury anode trim tab

I picked up a mercury trim tab at a garage sale, looks like the typical andoe w/long tip. The part # is 34127 A1 which was crossed to 34127 T2 but I cannot find out if it will fit my 1989 Merc 200 HP outboard. I though they were pretty much the same.
Mercury express calls for a 31640 Q4. Anyone know how to cross this over or did I donate a $1.00 to someones garage sale. It is new still in the shrink package.

Re: Mercury anode trim tab

I thought someone with knowledge would jump on this one. I was of the impression the anodes were all interchangable as long as they clear the propeller. Mine needs changing sometime in the near future, but I won't be using my boat again until middle of February since our fishing is closed in the Puget Sound area.

It would take less time to try it than identify it.

Re: Mercury anode trim tab

I have an extention kit on the motor and it takes a 10" extention to get down to it. The last time I changed it w/shorter version of anode, the socket came off the extention and that was a challange to get it out. I guess I will need to go into Sears and buy one of their extentions that have the lock button to keep the socket attached.
I went to Mercury express parts, but I cannot figure out how to get into their parts catalog. They want a sr# for your motor and then you only get parts for that motor. I did a google search and IBoat search, that is were I was able to make the hit on the information I have thus far.
If I was in Miami, where it is warm, would not mind the hassle, but here the Pacific Northwest, it is winter out there. Upper 30's w/20 mph wind and rain YUK! Not very condusive to work on a motor at this time. Last night in the foothills the wind was churning around 70-75 mph.
I just thought someone would know how to get to the information w/o a hassle.

Re: Mercury anode trim tab

gss, you will most likely need the "high performance" trim tab for that motor... The standard version will interfere with the prop...

It has a much shorter fin that is fatter and farther back.
What type of prop do you have on the motor?

I still think I have the package for that thing. I'll let you know what the part# is for it...

Anyway, I don't think trim tab you bought will fit due to the length of the fin. You can however cut it down some and it may work fine...

Re: Mercury anode trim tab

OK, guess I will have to try it when the weather breaks. I have a 14 1/2 X 17 cupped stainless prop. The anodes in the past have all been the short ones, about 3 inches, these are about 5 inches. I have seen pictures of the type you speak of, but never used one.
Still would nice to know how to access Mercury parts catalog for all the motors w/o having to provide a sr#.

Re: Mercury anode trim tab

zzzzz, I was able to get the merc parts catalog on another post. I found where that # is used on the 135 and 150 but not any higher HP engines. Why, I have no idea. Looking at the part, the only difference is the length of the anode fin. Like I said, I will try it when I am back on the water sometime after Feburary. I think as long the prop clears it, it will work. Mabe some thing to do with more trim angle which I would not notice it much w/hydralic steering.

Re: Mercury anode trim tab

Hey, Gary, I have a great deal for you if you want to pay postage. I recently traded in my old Mariner 220 (same 2.4L engine as the Merc 200) and I happen to have three things left I found in my garage. 1. trim tab zinc #31640-4 which I believe you were trying to buy 2. the zinc that goes on bottom your tilt section(don't know if number is good, but it is 43396 on part). 3. and a complete remote oil tank assy ( liked having spares) Quicksilver(that's merc) number 1257-8742A20) says doesn't have sender unit which I never had anyway on my boat. Oil tank assy does have holder and hoses. I think it would be around 20 pounds for it all if you want to pay the shipping, its Free.
____________
Mike

Re: Mercury anode trim tab

Mike, thanks for the offer, but I don't need the spares. I have 2 extra zincs at present. I was just wondering if the longer ones will work ok. I will just try them out in the spring. Also, don't know what I would do with an extra remote oil tank? I trailer my boat so don't go thru the zincs very fast unless I stay over in Friday Harbor, they have a real problem there, a long weekend can eat up 1/2 of a zinc.
If I remember correctly, you put on a new Verado, how do you like it? My 200 is approaching 15 years old now and I am salting away a few $$$$ for repower myself when this one goes. I will take a very serious look at the 200-250 E-Techs when I repower. Just hope they have a track record by then. With our limited fishing seasons up here, I don't get the hours I used to.

Re: Mercury anode trim tab

Gary I haven't got the boat back yet, still finishing up items from installing the 200 Verado. Hope to do the river test next week. Pulling a lot of old rigging out as I'm going with the SC5000 system view and no other gages. Need the room for a Radar/Chartplotter display. Will post back after river trial, we are supposed to try some different props too before I decide on one. I will say I have had several questions for Mercury about items relating to the Verado that isn't on the website and they were calling in less than 24 hours. Pretty impressive, they obviously want this to be a good customer support relationship.
