Will def do but last year the fly wheel lost a magnet no damage but when they installed the new fly it looked different def not the same that had been there before also I did not run the boat just put it away for the winter at any rpm below 2000 all is fine as soon I run it up that's when it cooks

Post a picture as if they put a 40 amp stator on a 16amp system it will melt one in a heartbeat...

are tha flywheels tha same "thickness"? red looks more like a "flex plate" type?.. it will have tha tangs for a rope pull bolted to tha top of it... black they used looks like its "cast"?.. tha rope tangs will be cast in place on it... your motor have a water cooled regulator/rectifier?

they should be tha same thickness.... look inside at magnet size.. a 40 amp system will work with either tha red flex plate like tha one that came on yours or tha later model black cast... sounds more like what faz thinks only other way around maybe... 16 amp stator and 40 amp flywheel maybe?... they did make both tha 16 and 40 amp systems in '89....

or tha reg/rec could be tha culprit.....

what i figured...do you know for sure that tha stator was replaced with a 40 amp and not a 16?... should have a part number on it..

tha red one like yours is just tha first type used with tha 40 amp stuff.. its a flex plate type.. later was cast... but a 40 is a 40 is a 40 etc. they did make a slight change "inside" tha flywheel when tha 'lectronics went to tha ecm/cdm stuff.. would look at tha "kit" to do away with tha water cooled stuff in lieu of tha later two dry reg/rec stuff...
