Mercury Black Max XR2 tilt and trim

I just got a Black Max XR2 150hp motor and the tilt and trim going up is very slow. It seems to hold in the up position and goes down ok but not up. I am waiting for a manual to come in and was wondering if anyone could tell me how to check the fluid level or if they have any ideas as to what it could be?

First, make sure you battery is good and hot......Not sure about your XR2, but on my 150 from 1974, there is a screw on top of the pump.....Remove and check level..........It could be a little slimy from sitting or just sticking a little from sitting up...Usually if it is low of fluid the motor will change rpm's as it picks up or looses fluid..
