mercury blackmax 1987 V6 200hp. starting problem

Hi, wondering if someone can point me in the right direction with this,decided to take my boat out the other day and while i was idling the boat out of the river mouth engine started to throw out more smelly smoke than usual, then just spluttered and died.Have since tried it in a tank but wont fire up but produces loads of smoke which smells like burnt oil,I checked two stroke oil tanks loads of it.checked water impellor its fine,beginning to think big bucks for repair to powerhead
