mercury blueband 500 50hp

i recently bought small boat with this engine,but i am having problems with single steering cable,it seems jammed also it wasnt connected to engine when i got it,at the end of the cable is a brass fitting with a hole at the end that screws off,dont know if anything else is missing,also are these engines reliable,it seems to run ok.matt

They are very reliable, dependable, strong if they haven't been abused. Sounds like its time for a new teleflex cable...their website or the mega-mall here has what you need.
