I have a 1990 Mercury 115 and need some assistance in adjusting the carbs. If someone could email me that knows what they're doing, since I don't, I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Mercury carb adjustments

Do you have a FACTORY Service Manual?

Check this thread to see if yours is still available for download

Do you need any mercury manuals on pdf format!!! - Page 1 - 309079

When was the last time the carbs have been thoroughly cleaned and rebuilt with new gaskets, and float needles?

The 115 in-line 4 is a 2 + 2 system, the motor idles on only the top two cyls, the bottom carbs do not have idle circuits and only pass just enough fuel to keep things lubed but not enough for combustion. As throttle is applied and airflow increases thru the lower carbs they begin to flow enough fuel for combustion to occur, an accelerator pump adds fuel to only the bottom cyls during throttle movement to assist in beginning combustion.

Carb throttle linkage adjustment is critical to smooth operation as well as accelerator pump adjustment. Follow the detailed instructions in the Service Manual to the letter.

Download the Service Manual, study the Fuel Sytem section before touching the motor to gain understanding of each component and adjustment procedure. Everything must be done exactly as spelled out and in that order as there are no shortcuts.

Repost your progress and any questions you have.
