Re: mercury carbs

Go to this link I have here for you. Enter your serial number and other info as prompted. Then it will take you to an exploded view and parts and price list. Do you have oil injected or not? The jet you have is for 90 HP WME-87 carb ONLY, sea level.
web page

Re: mercury carbs

I have a carb question also. I have some black plastic wing looking things right in the middle of the throat on my carbs. I broke one of them and need to know what purpose they serve.

Re: mercury carbs

Not sure, dstuard. I'd have to see the part, but my guess would be that piece is called a "plennum" (SP), and it's prpose in the carb is to direct or duct the flow of air/fuel mixture. It has some effect on performance, but the motor WILL run without it.
I would be more concerned with the pieces being drawn-into the reed block, or getting hung up inside the crankcase somewhere. It won't do too much damage as if it were made outta metal, but still, a hung-open reed will stop ya.

Re: mercury carbs

When you say you broke one of them what does that mean? You have the broken piece or not? If it went through the engine all I can say is "Oh Boy...." like 12footer says, the engine itself is probably ok but the reeds could be sprung a bit. Small plasic bits "USUALLY" will jus run through the engine without damage.(not teflon...)

No I have the carbs off for a rebuild and One was pretty brittle. I was trying to get it off b/c the mamual says not to dip plastic pieces. Thanks for the help 12 footer. I am still trying to get this beast going. Maybe a weekend away from it will do me some good.
