It attaches to the screw and no.

Need more info on the motor and year before we could even begin to answer that question.

Re: Mercury Choke Rod?

hi hope someone maybe able to help me?i have a 1988 mercury 50hp and i have little power, when in the water it dosnt want to get to its highest rmp,i have cleaned the carbs, new plugs, checked the prop, not overheating, but what i have noticed is that the butterflies on the carbs dont open until the throttle is half way forward then what little it has the power kicks in?,also on the side of the carbs there is a black plastic linkage conecting the 2 carbs together with a black wire on top whick isnt conected to anything, could this be the problem and where dose the black wire go?pleae help

Re: Mercury Choke Rod?

Merc did use a wire for the manual choke linkage. However, as long as the electric choke works, it is not a factor.

I recommend a compression test and a spark test. Post back compression numbers and how many cylinders have spark. Also inspect plug electrodes for color and post it back.
