I have been around boating a while, but I have been fortunate enough not to run into the issue I had today until now. So I believe I have been real lucky.

Boat Specs:
2001 Classic Mercury 90 on a 22' pontoon

We had used our boat all this morning and the boat performed flawlessly with 3 knee-boarders. Went in for lunch. Came back out after lunch. Started pulling a knee-boarder. Probably went a mile. Then trouble started when the knee-boarder fell. I went to pull the throttle back and it would not pull back into neutral
1) The throttle wouldn't pull all the way back. I tried running it up again and then back down but something was resisting it from going into neutral.

2) I shut the motor off with the key and tried working the throttle again without the motor running and it seemed to release and felt OK. No resistance.

3) Went to start the engine again and when it cranked the motor tried to run at WOT. I immediately shut it down. And pulled the engine cover and inspected the throttle cable area. Nothing immediately jumped out at me.

4) I tried steps 2 and 3 again with all the same results.

I know there may be something with the throttle cables being they could be 9 years old.

Any other ideas of things I should look for?
