Okay.. Here is the deal. Im in the middle of a resto, and getting closer to starting to tackle the rigging of this boat.
1972 Sidewinder 18SS-

Anyhow, I have a 76 Mercury 115 Inline 6 that Ill be hanging from the back of her. Seeing that most all the wiring was shot on the old control box, I purchased a newer control box off of a fine gentleman from a 78 Merc Inline. The OLD shifter was a MerControl box. This is the newer one that I purchased.

Now this newer control that Ill be using has a connector on it like this for the tach hookup.

There are 4 Wires feeding into it.
One Black with White Strip
One Gray
One Purple
One White with Blue Stripe

and then there is a seperate wire that is tan in color.

What is the TAN wire by itself for? And does anyone know what part I need to purchase to have a plug and play into the tach plug? The boat previously never had gauges at all, and I have a set of new/used Faria marpac gauges to install here in the future. I cannot seem to find a clear answer on to where to purchase a new tach plug wire for this thing. And Im guessing that the tan wire is either for a trim indicator (which I dont need) or for a temp gauge (which i dont think I need either, due to the fact that Im unsure if there even is a sender on my motor at all)

The motor conector has the wires comming out for the tilt/trim motor and the trim gauge. The wires comming out of the control are gray for tach, purple is probley 12v+, white is trim gauge, black is 12v- , tan should be temp gauge . The 4 wires at the motor end should be Tan trim sender, red 12v+ to trim motor, blue trim down to trim motor, green trim up to trim motor. The extentision cord from the control to the dash can be bought online or at some merc dealers.
Hope this helps, Oldman570

Thanks, I dug through my SELOC book and couldnt find one that matched up with the color I had posted. So the white is the trim gauge.

Do you happen to know what the part number is for the plug in extension cord for the tach?

Yep thats the one you need to go from the control to the gauges. Best to get one the length you need or a little longer. It can be bought from other sellers but cost about the same. Order from Merc parts express, and pick up at dealer closest to you, or search for the part # online thru other dealers. They might charge extra for shipping.

Best of Boating,
Oldman570;)
