Started having trouble with my throttle controls sticking in the wide open position. It feels like something is stuck or binding inside the control box. I believe it is the standard Mercury Commander, side mount control.

I have lubricated the cables at the motor end, but can't see how to access anything on the control box. On my last motor you could pop the plastic neutral button off, remove the handle and access the screws for a cover plate on the box.

I just can't see how to access anything on this Mercury control.

Any ideas

When a Merc box does that, its best to replace it. You can spend many hours trying to figure what causes it, but never actually fix it.

I will have to agree. Just get you a new control box and be done with it. By the time and pain you go thru to get your's off, just to find out you need a new one is not worth it, and besides, even if you think you have fixed it, it will catch you out on the water one day and freeze up and you will be stuck.

I'd hate to see you replace your control box,if it's just a bad cable. ;)
