I'm entertaining a purchase of a 27 Boston Whaler with a pair of 1995 Merc 225 EFI engines on it. Owner states fuel consumption of 18-20 gph per engine at a cruising RPM of 3000-3200. With a fuel capacity of 240 gallons, that would only provide a range of less than 6 hours of cruising! He's only put 60 hours on the boat over the last 5 years so his familaririty with the performance is suspect. My calculations suggest closer to a 20-24 combined gph consumption at that rpm. Unfortunately performance and consumption curves are not available on outboards like they are with their cast iron friends from the diesel world (I know, a whole other topic). Anyone care to expand??

andyg
