Mercury Engine problem

I have a 1987 Mercury 150 V6 that is making a ticking noise. Took it to a repair shop and they said everything checked out ok(gas, spark, compression) and they believe the problem is with the wrist pin. They said a new powerhead would run $5,000-6,000 or we could just run it until it blows. they didn't say that they could replace the bad wrist pin and don't think sinking $5-6k into an old engine like this one is worth it and I really don't want to run the engine until it blows if it can be fixed. Should I go to another shop to get another opinion or is the only way to fix a bad wrist pin is to replace the powerhead? Any idea on what it would cost to replace? I have a fishing trip coming up and not sure if I should cancel until it gets fixed?
