Mercury model 850....what year do I have?

I have a mercury outboard model 850. It is in great shape appearance wise, but I am getting no fire. Before I troubleshoot it, I would like to know the year of the engine.<br /><br />The serial number is: 3875963<br />Any help will be appreciated.<br /><br />Thanks.

It's a 1974 model.

Thanks Ob. <br />May I ask how you found it so quickly?I've been searching for awhile with no luck. The closest I came was from a Seloc manual,but it said the motor could be between 1971 and 1977.<br />The local dealer was no help.<br /><br />Thanks again.
